Are we doing well? I would say no.<\/p>\n
But it’s a fact, it’s news, that sometimes we read a politician’s statement and, suddenly, find ourselves reflecting that well, maybe not all is lost. I’m thinking of the recent considerations about General Roberto Vannacci expressed clearly by Gianantonio Da Re, a 70-year-old MEP from the League, a bit old-fashioned, from the Treviso area.<\/p>\n
Da Re continues to do the politics he knows, he doesn’t attend TV talk shows, the major newspapers don’t interview him, and so he remains there, between Brussels and the surroundings of Vittorio Veneto, where he was also mayor for five years. Many League members have been grumbling for weeks, since the news started to bounce around: the general has nothing to do with the great political tradition of the League.<\/p>\n
But then – here comes Da Re. He avoids whispers and says it clearly: “If the League nominates Vannacci as the lead candidate in the upcoming European elections, it’s clear that I step back.”<\/p>\n
A specific choice. And motivated: “I don’t agree with anything in the book written by that general.<\/p>\n
There are pages where he claims that Mussolini was a statesman. But for me, Mussolini was a dictator!<\/p>\n
Statesmen are people like De Gasperi. No, Vannacci cannot be the lead candidate.<\/p>\n
The only possible lead candidate is Giorgetti, capable of intercepting our moderate vote.” Vannacci claims that Da Re didn’t even flip through the book.<\/p>\n
However, the point is another: has Salvini read it? Does he share certain tremendous ideas of the general?<\/p>\n

Da Re contin\u00faa haciendo pol\u00edtica sabe hacer, no asiste a programas de entrevistas en televisi\u00f3n, los peri\u00f3dicos principales no lo entrevistan, y as\u00ed se queda all\u00ed, entre Bruselas y los alrededores de Vittorio Veneto, donde tambi\u00e9n fue alcalde durante cinco a\u00f1os. Muchos miembros de la Liga han estado murmurando durante semanas, desde que la noticia comenz\u00f3 a circular: el general no tiene nada que ver con la gran tradici\u00f3n pol\u00edtica de la Liga.<\/p>\n
Pero entonces – entra Da Re. \u00c9l evita los susurros y lo dice claramente: “Si la Liga nomina a Vannacci como candidato principal en las pr\u00f3ximas elecciones europeas, est\u00e1 claro que yo me retiro”.<\/p>\n
