“Sustainability and Social Balance Award”: third edition, open call until February 23rd – Corriere.it

Sustainable companies, with no waste. Employees are paid fairly. Attention to the communities around.

And maybe a corporate welfare, something Olivetti already understood 70 years ago how convenient it was for everyone. Using clean energy. And even cleaner finance.

In short, “sustainable”, not in one direction but in all, especially in the three main areas indicated by the acronym ESG: Environmental, Social, Governance. This is what companies must and will increasingly be, not only by ethical choice or civic sense – which should actually be enough already – but to stay in the market. And in fact: not only companies anymore but also – especially in the name of transparency – the realities of the Third sector.

And all this is important not only to do it but also to be able to account for it: clearly, truthfully, completely and in ways that are attractive. The tools used for this storytelling are called “Sustainability Report” for the companies, and “Social Report” for Third Sector Entities. And now the Corriere della Sera Buone Notizie together with the technical partner NeXt Nuova Economia per Tutti Aps ETStor are organizing a prize for the third time aimed at promoting these practices.

Not to make a ranking or a list of good and bad, attention: but to valorize those who already use the tool and encourage others to tackle it. The call for applications is still open until next February 23rd, and is addressed – as stated in the announcement – to “companies that draw up the Sustainability Report (annual period 2022) and to Third sector Entities that draw up Sustainability Reports and Social Reports (annual period 2022): tools that must go beyond mere regulatory compliance – as also highlighted by the Regulation – and always be able to communicate with transparency, clarity and effectiveness the comprehensive sustainability strategy implemented and the involvement of their own stakeholders”. The real objective, which is the crucial point of the initiative, is therefore to shine a light on those who are already capable of doing the right things – so that it also serves as a model for others – and meanwhile help those who are further behind to understand how to correct any critical issues.

As NeXt’s general manager, Luca Raffaele, already emphasized last year anticipating the launch of the current edition of the Prize: “One of the great successes of this initiative will not only be to spread information on sustainability or increase the number of participants in 2024, but to increase the percentage of companies or Third Sector Entities that will have improved in these months.” “Voting with the wallet for responsible consumption and saving, loudly requested today also by institutions and recognized as a fundamental tool to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda – as economist Leonardo Becchetti, co-founder of NeXt, recalled – requires quality and accessibility of information for the general public. This is one of the challenges of non-financial reporting in the near future”.

The final score assigned to the participants – as still stated by the promoters of the Prize – is not indicative of the level of sustainability of the company or organization analyzed, but of the ability to tell this commitment in the most transparent and exhaustive way possible. All the entities that have obtained a score at least equal to a passing grade will be invited to the final presentation event that will take place in April and the best ones will be valorized on the special pages of Buone Notizie. *Corriere della Sera is also on Whatsapp.
