According to calculations made by the Cgil, for the new generations, the retirement goal is increasingly distant: “With this system, they are poor workers and will be even poorer retirees”. And then there is the paradox of those who pay for the pensions of the wealthiest. According to Istat data, salaries over the last two years have grown by 3.1% in 2023 compared to the previous year (but in 2022 they had only grown by 1.1%). Too little.

A phenomenon of low wages further exacerbated by inflation. And if wages grow little on average for all sectors and age groups, it is undeniable that the younger generation pays the highest price. The new generations, in fact, are the most penalized because, as we know, those under 35 are the ones who struggle the most to enter the job market and when they succeed, they too often find themselves with atypical or fixed-term contracts, which inevitably mean low wages.
