Italy wins its first medal at the Doha World Swimming Championships. The silver medal comes from the diving event, with the pair Lorenzo Marsaglia and Giovanni Tocci earning a historic result in the men’s synchronized 3m springboard and securing Italy’s first-ever medal in this discipline at the World Championships in Doha.
Tocci, 29 years old, from Cosenza and team captain, and Marsaglia, 27 years old from Rome, put up an impressive performance in the final with a score of 384.24, setting a mark of excellence. The event was won by the Chinese pair with 442.41, and a surprise third place was grabbed by Spain with 383.28.
“I am moved because this group continues to give me satisfaction – the words of the coach Oscar Bertone – The girls were excellent, determined, and focused. It’s not easy to stay concentrated during long elimination rounds.
The goal before Doha was to secure the remaining Olympic spots, and we are achieving it.” (updating in progress)
