The MotoGP returns to Malaysia for the first important test of the season, with all the official riders from each manufacturer taking part for three days (from February 6th to 8th). Martin (Ducati) sets the fastest time. In the first day of MotoGP testing, the debutant Pedro Acosta of KTM impressed by finishing 2nd.
The goal for all is to reduce the gap with the bikes from Borgo Panigale, which started strong with Jorge Martin setting the fastest time on the 2024 Desmosedici, ahead of the highly anticipated rookie of the year, Pedro Acosta, riding for the GasGas Tech3 team after winning the Moto2 World Championship in the previous season. The young and talented Spanish rider is one of the most interesting new faces to follow, having taken advantage of the recent private testing at Sepang last week, where the official riders were excluded. In 4th place, Fabio Di Giannantonio on the 2023 Ducati, joining the VR46 team in place of Marini after a strong finish in the last World Championship.
The reigning champion also has to test important aerodynamic innovations in addition to the new engine, which has been further improved in performance. Yamaha displayed a more powerful engine, allowing Quartararo (3rd fastest) to match the top speed of Honda, KTM, and Ducati (but the Frenchman is requesting better handling for his inline-four). Disappointment came for those who expected a dazzling debut from Marc Marquez, who also had a fall, but the Spanish rider who had impressed with the satellite Ducati in Valencia is working to find the most suitable riding position.
For now, he’s only in 9th place. The tests are not broadcasted live on TV, but the times are available from 3 AM on the official MotoGP website, and Sky (as well as the broadcaster’s social channels) will provide coverage with reports, images, and interviews. 6th February 2024 (Updated on 6th February 2024 | 15:09)
