Maria Fida Moro, the eldest daughter of the former Prime Minister killed by the Red Brigades, has died – Corriere.it

Maria Fida Moro, the eldest daughter of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro, had been ill for some time, but in recent days her health had rapidly deteriorated. She was 77 years old and had served as a parliamentarian for one term.

Politically turbulent, Maria Fida was elected to the Senate in Puglia with the Christian Democrats in 1987, but soon distanced herself from her father’s party, later joining the Communist Refoundation group as an independent and then, after her Senate experience, joining the Social Movement (with an unsuccessful mayoral candidacy in Fermo). She then moved to National Alliance, and later to other political movements.

Her family life also had its share of suffering and turmoil. She was the first of four children of the former leader of the Christian Democracy party.

She faced health challenges, including three pre-heart attacks and several tumors with many relapses. She fought for the recognition of reparative measures provided by law for the children of terrorism victims, which she had never received.

This required a long legal battle and political pressure to move the chambers. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for the unexpected news that the Chamber of Deputies was actively working to implement the 2004 law in favor of Aldo Moro, her father.

This law aimed to ensure that the victims and their families received benefits, a miracle that finally equated her grandfather to other victims. (Article being updated)
