Tax Evasion, Record Recovery: 24.7 Billion Collected Thanks to Audits, Collections, and Tax Amnesty

Record recovery on the tax evasion front. The recovery amounts to 4.5 billion more than in 2022 (+22%).

“The highest amount ever,” the Agency announces in a note. In detail, 19.6 billion comes from ordinary control activities carried out by the Tax Authority and 5.1 billion from extraordinary measures, such as “scrapping” of tax bills, settlement of pending disputes, and tax peace.

There is also an increase in the amounts voluntarily paid by citizens. It is stated that “the revenue relating to the main taxes managed by the Revenue Agency has exceeded 536 billion euros, with an increase of over 26 billion compared to the previous year.”

The revenues from extraordinary measures, also referring to the Revenue Agency, amount to 5.1 billion: 4.3 billion from the scrapping of tax bills, 586 million from the settlement of pending disputes (Budget Law 2023), and 245 million from “tax peace”. There is also an increase in tax refunds, which in 2023 exceeded 22.4 billion euros (+12%).

Of these, 19.5 billion went to the productive sector and 2.9 billion to families.
